Grandview... What is it going to be like?

I'm signed up to help Grandview Community Center. I cannot find a website for Grandview anywhere on the internet, which actually is an impressive feat since I'm usually pretty fluent on using google.

From what I read in the short description, though, its a community center for at risk children on Linden street. I'm not sure who I will be working with, as I have been having a hard time getting in contact with anyone. But again from what I've been told I will mostly be dealing with school age children in the Everett area who are at risk. I'm assuming that means that I will be working with children who are maybe low income, or in foster care.

I'm not too sure what I will experience while working here, again, because I cannot seem to get in contact or be able to work into my schedule this service learning requirement. I'm hoping that I will be able to go though. I'm assuming I will encounter a lot of children, though, and quite possibly organized chaos since that's usually how child-related events go. I'm going to guess that it will smell like cleaning supplies, since everyone is a overly cautious about germs or some reason now a days when it comes to kids.

I picked this site because I'm used to working with kids, as I already volunteer 100+ hours a year to Snohomish TOPSoccer and have since I was 11 years old (By Choice) and I am now on the board for TOPS so I feel most comfortable working with children of any background or ability rather than adults or the elderly.

Again, I'd attach a link but I cant get any information about this organization at all. When I get to finally go do this orientation i keep hearing about I will ask for their website if they have one.

  1. Great post! I sure hope someone gets intouch with you soon. I think that it'll be a rewarding job to work with children that may have a difficult life.
